Somerset Council Community Working Review

Published: October 8, 2025

Somerset Council Community Working Review, currently being undertaken by their partners Citizen Network, is happening at a time when the government have announced the Pride of Place strategy and are looking to mandate Neighbourhood governance structures and they are looking to this review to inform their practice here in Somerset, in line with this new guidance.

There is an opportunity for you to input into the review by completing the survey here https://tally.so/r/m6qpEk by the 17th October.

This questionnaire is gathering reflections on this topic from a range of a wide range of different people in Somerset who have experience in community development and engagement. This includes: councillors and staff at Somerset Council, city, parish and town councils; people who work in public services; community groups and social enterprises; and, business owners.
The inclusion and democracy organisation Citizen Network have been commissioned to review how Somerset Council can work to engage and develop communities. The review will reflect on the aspirations when Somerset Council became a unitary authority and the experience since, and recommend a framework for Somerset Council that will support a programme of community development and engagement.
