27th June
A celebration of 100 years since laying of the Foundation Stone at Porlock Village Hall
As far back as 1911, a committee was appointed by a public meeting to decide in what manner the coronation of King George and Queen Mary should be commemorated in Porlock village and there was a proposition then that a village hall should be built to commemorate that historic event. It took 14 long years, including WW1, much planning and fund-raising to arrive at 27th June 1925 when Mary, Countess of Lovelace (daughter- in-law of Ada Lovelace) laid a stone at the village hall. The stone itself is still in place but has not weathered well.
So, on June 27th the committee has arranged for Porlock’s very own Town Crier to start proceedings at 2pm, with the unveiling of a new sign, some VERY short speeches and a lot of tea and cake. There will also be an exciting exhibition of decades through the last century, some re-enactments and other displays to entertain until 4pm.
At 7.30pm we welcome the Bristol Ceilidh Quartet

Tickets are £5 each and will be on sale from Monday 2nd June. Tickets are online at wegottickets.com/event/658109 (booking fee applies). A family ticket costs £15 for 2 adults and 2 children over 12yrs. Anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

We hope to welcome as many friends and supporters to both events, to offer a thank you for all the years that Porlock folk have hired the hall, attending classes, talks, weddings and funerals, and the occasional christening, and so much more !!
There is also a short survey available until 27th June. There is a supply at the Village Hall and at the Porlock Information Centre where there is also a box for completed forms.
We hope that this will help us form some ideas for the next 100yrs.
